Kyle Lane, an Uber Driver in Chattanooga, TN, will receive two years of probation after pleading guilty to inappropriately touching a passenger. He pled guilty to false imprisonment in order to avoid the more serious charge of sexual battery. He also pled guilty to unlawful exposure. Lane was sentenced to probation for two years and will be required to continue counseling.
According to prosecutor Andrew Coyle, the false imprisonment charge against Lane stemmed from when he locked a passenger in his car and forced her to touch his genitals in 2017. There was also another woman woman who was allegedly assaulted by Lane a few days after the first incident. The two victims sued Uber for not doing its part in protecting them and the suit was settled with the victims in 2018.
