On Monday, September 9, 2019, Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez, an Uber driver in San Luis Obispo, CA, was was charged with raping, assaulting and robbing four victims. He faces 10 criminal charges, including rape of an intoxicated victim and first-degree burglary. The alleged crimes took place over a four-week period starting in mid-December, 2018.
According to California prosecutors, Alarcon-Nunez would drive the women to their homes, where he would assault them, and steal property. This included cellphones, computers, and jewelry, according to San Luis Obispo officials. He would then collect his fare payments through the smartphone app Venmo in order to disguise his identity and his Uber records.
Detectives are looking for any potential witnesses. They are also trying to determine if there are additional victims in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Alarcon-Nunez had been driving for Uber in both of these locations since September, and police believe there may be other victims.
